Corte Madera one step away from ending all commercial tobacco product sales

Corte Madera might become the county’s first municipality with nicotine retailers to ban the products entirely.

Several municipalities in Marin have been tightening restrictions on the sale of tobacco and nicotine products. In Southern California, Beverly Hills and Manhattan Beach passed full tobacco sales bans in 2019, but allowed for some exemptions or retailer hardship claims.

Corte Madera adopted restrictions in March, prohibiting certain nicotine products like oral pouches and banning some tobacco sales tactics like discounts. The Town Council discussed a comprehensive ban at its meeting on Tuesday.
